Program
04:00 am – 04:30 am | Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco
The adventure begins before dawn. The Machupicchu Global team will pick you up from your accommodation to board our comfortable tourist transport, equipped with portable oxygen and a first aid kit. We will begin the journey south of the region, venturing into the Andean valleys and crossing picturesque traditional villages.
06:30 am | Energizing Breakfast in Cusipata
After approximately 2 hours of travel, we will arrive at the district of Cusipata. Here we will enjoy an energizing breakfast prepared with local products, ideal to fuel up before starting the hike. We will also take a short break to rest and prepare for the day.
08:00 am | Arrival at Chillihuani and Start of the Hike
We will continue our journey for approximately 1 hour until we reach the community of Chillihuani, the starting point of our hike. From here, with trekking poles in hand (included) and accompanied by our professional guide, we will begin the ascent to the 7-Color Mountain.
09:30 am | Ascent to Vinicunca
The hike takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes uphill. The trail is at high altitude, offering spectacular scenery at every moment: the imposing Ausangate snow-capped mountain (6,372 m a.s.l.) stands as guardian of the valley, while llamas and alpacas graze freely around us. For those who wish, there is the option to rent a horse from local villagers to ease the physical effort (service not included, direct payment on site).
11:00 am | Arrival at the 7-Color Mountain (Vinicunca)
Upon reaching the summit, at over 5,200 meters above sea level, the spectacle is simply breathtaking. The natural stripes of color covering the mountain — red, green, purple, yellow, pink, and ocher — are the result of mineral accumulation over millions of years. We will have ample time to take the best photographs, rest, and listen to our guide’s fascinating explanations about the geological origin of this phenomenon and its profound cultural and spiritual significance for the Andean communities.
12:30 pm | Descent to Chillihuani
We will begin the descent back to Chillihuani, a more relaxed path that will allow us to say goodbye to the landscape from different perspectives and continue enjoying the local fauna and flora.
02:00 pm | Traditional Andean Lunch in Cusipata
Upon arriving at Chillihuani, we will board our transport to return to Cusipata. There, a delicious traditional Andean lunch awaits us, prepared with local ingredients and ancestral recipes, perfect for regaining energy after the hike.
03:00 pm | Return to the City of Cusco
We will begin the return trip to the city. During the journey, you can relax and relive the moments experienced as the vehicle once again travels through the Andean valleys.
05:00 pm (approx.) | Arrival in Cusco
We will arrive in the city of Cusco, dropping you off at the Plaza de Armas or a central point near your accommodation. Thus concludes an unforgettable day at one of Peru’s most impressive natural destinations.

Recommendations
Recommendations for your trip:
To ensure your experience with Machupicchu Global is a complete success, we share these key recommendations:
Acclimatization and Physical Preparation:
- Prior acclimatization: It is highly recommended to have spent at least two full days in the city of Cusco before doing this excursion. This will allow your body to adapt to the altitude (3,400 m a.s.l.) and significantly reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
- Physical condition: The hike is of moderate to demanding difficulty due to the altitude. A good basic physical condition will make the experience much more enjoyable.
Clothing and Footwear:
- Layering system: Wear light, breathable clothing as a base, a middle insulating layer (fleece), and a windbreaker or waterproof jacket as the outer layer. The mountain weather is extremely variable: it can change from intense cold to radiant sunshine in a matter of minutes.
- Trekking footwear: Use waterproof trekking shoes with good traction soles. The trail may have steep, loose, and slippery sections.
- Thermal protection: Do not forget a hat for the cold, gloves, scarf, or fleece neck gaiter. Temperatures in the morning and at the summit are very low.
- Sun protection: Wide-brimmed hat or cap, UV-protection sunglasses, and high-resistance sunscreen (50+ SPF). Solar radiation at high altitude is extremely intense.
Hydration and Nutrition:
- Water: Bring your own reusable water bottle (minimum 1.5 to 2 liters). Staying hydrated is vital to combat the effects of altitude.
- Energy snacks: Nuts, cereal bars, chocolate, coca candies. They will help you maintain energy during the hike.
- Avoid heavy meals: Before the tour, avoid very fatty or heavy foods to prevent stomach discomfort at altitude.
Documentation and Money:
- Identification document: Bring your original passport or valid national ID.
- Cash: Bring Peruvian soles in small denominations for the mountain entrance fee (approx. S/ 20.00), for possible handicraft purchases, and for tips.
Additional Equipment:
- Small backpack: To carry your belongings comfortably during the hike.
- Camera: Make sure to bring fully charged batteries and enough storage space. The landscapes of Vinicunca are a dream for any photographer!
- Rain poncho: Essential, especially during the rainy season (November to March).
Optional – Horse Rental:
- If you have difficulty walking long distances at altitude, you can rent a horse at the mountain base (Chillihuani community). The approximate cost is USD 30.00 (direct cash payment to local villagers). We recommend bringing the exact amount in soles or dollars.
Respect for the Environment and the Community:
- Do not leave trash: Help us preserve the beauty of Vinicunca. Bring a bag to dispose of your waste and place it in designated areas.
- Stay on the trails: Follow only the marked paths and your guide’s instructions to avoid damaging the fragile ecosystem.
- Interaction with the community: Be respectful of local villagers and their customs. They are the guardians of this sacred mountain.
- Punctuality: Respect the pick-up times and your guide’s instructions. Punctuality is essential for the success and safety of the excursion.
